Hoover LiNX Cordless Stick Vac (Model BH50010) List $179.99 (3/17/09)Pros:Cleans well - on/off brushroll for bare floors or area rugs/carpeting, excellent on pet hairControl on handle - easy to useCharge indicator accurate & usefulDust cup very easy to empty & clean (including baffle tube when necessary)Filter easy to cleanStands up to storeCons:Awkward on stairs - no stair-handle, must support from below. I'm getting used to this, and it's easier if I use my stronger hand for the machine and weaker hand for the handle.THE BOTTOM LINE:Hoover Platinum CSV is absolutely shines in two areas: ease of use (switching from brushroll on to brushroll off, going between surface heights & types), and cleaning ability, especially the tricky maneuver of getting pet hair off area rugs.WORD TO THE WISE:I got this information from Hoover after my battery failed: don't store the battery in the charger. (I stored it in the charger and only took it out of the charger when I used it.) There is nothing in the instructions about this, but storing it in the charger can cause it to fail. It's OK to leave it several hours or overnight, but then take it out of the charger and put it in the vacuum. The battery will continue to hold the full charge no matter how long it is stored in the vacuum. (Thanks to the 2 year warranty on the battery, they are sending me a new one at no charge.)Read on if you are interested in more detailed comments:Price:I am sure that with time the price will come down or discounts will be available from the $179 list. I know that the Hoover Platinum Lightweight Bagged Upright (another model in this line) which originally listed for $399 is readily available online for $300 now. (Nov 12, 2009 edit: Price has finally dropped into the $150 range!)Battery Life:The battery life is quite good, and I like the "fade-free" aspect of the product - it works at full power for the whole time. It does a much better job so much quicker than my old vac and I am more than satisfied, since I can get everything I want done in a single charge.Bagless feature:I think I finally understand why bagless vacuums are so popular, even though they are more work: there is something so satisfying about SEEING how much dirt and pet hair you have removed from your flooring. But however satisfying it is to see what you have removed, it creates an extra step that you need to perform nearly every time you use a bagless vac - ANY bagless vac - if you want it to maintain its cleaning power. With my previous stick vac, the dust cup emptied fine, but I had to pull the dust off the filter with my fingers to ready it for the next use, and occasionally use another vacuum to clean the filter because it was not washable. The Hoover Platinum CSV, however, is exceptionally easy to empty and clean. The dust cup empties from the bottom, the baffle tube is easy to remove from the dust cup assembly if necessary (which it will be, if you have multiple long-haired daughters), and the filter can be bushed off with a dry toothbrush and washed when necessary. Long hair does tend to wind around the baffle tube (part of the bagless system). Fortunately, that is easy to remove when emptying the dust cup.Carpet Cleaning:I have used (and liked, and still believe it is a good stick vac, although with limitations) the Eureka The Boss Lite Cordless (96 b)Eureka 96 B Quick Up Upright Cordless Stick Vacuum cordless (rated 4 ½ stars on Amazon) for years on my hardwood floors and area rugs for quick cleanups, so I have a basis for comparison. My old Boss Lite was great on bare floors, but only better-than-nothing on rugs. (I used to kneel down and wipe the surface with a well-wrung out sponge to get the hair off my area rugs because the brush-roll on the Eureka just wasn't up to it.) By comparison, the Hoover Platinum Cordless Stick Vac is amazingly good at getting surface pet hair, dirt, and sock lint off rugs. It won't deep clean, but it will help to make the carpet surface LOOK clean, which is all I want for a quick clean up.Ease of use:Easily goes from one surface to another seamlessly, except for certain very lightweight mats. Rubber backed bathmats and doormats require me to lift the vacuum up off the bare floor and onto the rug, but it does a good job on those at cleaning them rather than sucking them up. It cannot be used on the very lightest towel-weight throw rugs with no backing, even without the brushroll - it sucks them up. With ordinary area rugs, however, the Hoover Platinum CSV goes up and over the edge with amazing ease.Edge cleaning:This vacuum has excellent edge cleaning. I don't ever have to stoop down to get that random bit of whatever from near the baseboard. This is a MAJOR plus when compared to my old stick vac.Clearance:The Hoover Platinum CSV will go under about the first 9 inches of furniture with only about 2 ½ inches of clearance,- you can't go further than that, because the bagless dust cup gets in the way. But if you have more clearance - about 8 inches (what my kitchen chairs have under the crossbars between the legs)- then you can get completely under. Was there anything I liked BETTER about the my old stick vac?Yes, I liked the way it hung on the wall to charge. The Hoover has a charging base which charges the battery, and the vac, while it stands on its own (a plus), does require floor space.

I bought this after seeing the TV Commercial and reading the previous reviews. I have three Scottish Terriers who bring the outside inside on a daily basis. This little vacuum more than handles their combined "footprint." Suction power is great, and ability to turn off roller helps immensely with area rug fringes. Battery power is the major disappointment. Indeed, you cannot waste time as your battery life will limit your square coverage. I was able to cover a 17 x 21, a 10 x10, a 20 x 8 and 12 x 14 room on one charge. That said, if more attention to detail was paid to nooks I am not sure I would have acheived this much. Like the previous reviewer I am debating keeping the machine. An extra battery might alleviate the problem - however, with ability to only charge one battery at a time you are really looking at a six hour gap between cleanings. I plan to call Hoover to see what extra battery/charger options, if any are available. With battery improvement I would give 5 stars without hesitation. For small spaces this is a great product. Also, you will most likely have to empty the vacuum at least once during a 3-4 room cleaning. I did not find this difficult, nor too messy.

FIVE STARS. THE PERFECT VACUUM HAS ARRIVED.(Hoover Platinum Linx Cordless Stick Vacuum) I am a male homeowner (engineer) with a wife and 4 children and am a vacuuming nut. I actually modified TWO 7 year old eureka "theboss cordlesss upright vacuum" to use sears lithium batteries because the nickel cadmium batteries all other vacuums use are so poor. Then I found the hoover vac with linx or lithium batteries. WOW!!! I now have one of these on all 3 floors of our house. Talk about convenient and easy to use. The recharger is plugged in and ready and sits nearby. My wife and I love being able to just grab a lightweight vac whenever we want and just clean a spill made by our active toddler or vacuum a room when it needs it. No more winding and unwinding cords and pulled back muscles and scraped hands struggling to bend over furniture to plug and unplug and remove baby protectors and wasted trips back and forth to the outlets hidden behind sofa's etc. No more backbreaking trips up and down the stairs with a 20 pound vacuum in and out of the closet. I know people will say I am a nut, but YES I actually ENJOY vacuuming now. It is like the difference between a gas pushmower and driving my green riding tractor around the yard. This vac saves hours of time, because you spend your time vacuuming rather than plugging and unplugging 12 times and dragging a heavy vacuum up and down 2 flights of stairs and back and forth. AND BONUS!!! the carpet is cleaner because we vacuum more often and the AIR is cleaner with less dust in the air. You can pick these up new for just around $120 on the internet and they are worth every penny! I also got a Lithium hand vac! Awesome as well. You see how much dirt Both of these units pick up and it is amazing. Our family loves to snack(ie drop crumbs all over from pizza, toast, etc) and we keep the upright in the kitchen/family room and we use it every day to keep the area looking great after meals and snacks. And yes, it works great on carpet also! The other area we clean all the time is by the door. We are in and out a lot and it is great for picking up the sand and leaves etc each day. Our house always looks clean. If you want to vacuum 4500 square feet in one pass, this may not be the vac for you, but we do a room here and there as needed and we generally recharge the battery once a week. Only a lithium battery is going to allow you to do that. I hope Hoover does well with this item and that we see lots of competition follow suit. I would like to see a high end dual 24volt battery model with upholstery brush. Our regular vac went in the garbage can this week. While others are making giant expensive vac's that look like spaceships and are self propelled monsters, Hoover is on the right track. Light, powerful and easy to use! And way more convenient then a central vac which costs hundreds more! I could go on and on...did I mention the 6 year warranty? And NO , I don't work for Hoover or know anyone that does. MY VOTE FOR PRODUCT OF THE YEAR 2009.

I bought this vacuum and it works like a charm. No more cords to fall over or have to keep plugging and unplugging. Really does an excellent job on my wood floors and gets all the dust and lint vacummed. Also works good on carpets.I do plan to get the extra battery so it will be ready at all times but you don't need to if you are willing to wait three hours for the battery to recharge.

The best cordless vac I have ever used - without exception. It is very light and easy to carry weighing just 1 lb more than the Dirt Devil Extreme Power Stick Vacuum, which it beats in all regards hands-down, .It picks up dirt almost as well as my self-propelled Hoover Windtunnel (bagged) and edge-cleaning close to the wall may even be better than the full size Hoover - though it does not lift plush pile quite as well. Cat food, cat litter, fur, hair, sand, popcorn etc. are no problem for this vacuum, and the generously sized (for a cordless) dirt canister is very easy to remove, open and empty. The brushes can be switched off using the fingertip switch and then it does a very good job on hardwood and tile. The Li-ion battery maintains maybe 95% of full power/rpm right up until the point where it is fully discharged and the motor stops. It clicks securely into the charger making perfect electrical contact when pushed fully home - which requires a definite click. The blue light, which is constant when charging, flashes to signify fully charged in about 3 hours. This would be a good time to empty dirt from the canister. The filter is not one of those flimsy mesh "tents". It is a 1/2" thick 3" diameter piece of small-cell foam which seems to trap all the fine particles - none is visible on the discharge side. The only drawback is that Hoover recommends that this be dried for 24 hours after washing it. (It is barely dirty and has not yet been washed after re-charging and dumping dirt more than 20 times.)The reasons this does not merit 5 stars:The battery lasts little more than 10 minutes.Only 1 battery is supplied with the unit - 2 of this capacity would have been more appropriate. An additional battery from Hoover costs $70.In all other respects this cordless vacuum easily merits 5 stars. It is absolutely superb for "quick touch-ups" between major cleaning.

Having read the previous reviews I was expecting this Hoover to be adequate on hard floors, ineffective on carpets and to run long enough to vac three or four rooms. I was also hoping that it wouldn't have a hard time dealing with the prolific shedding of my yellow lab.It easily exceeded my expectations. On hard floors it's better than my Dyson. On carpets it's almost comparable. I was easily able to Hoover two large hard-floor rooms and three carpeted rooms in a single charge.Suction was great. It's lightweight, maneuverable and very easy to switch the beater on and off.I expected that I'd use this cleaner for quick daily whip arounds in between thorough vacuuming with a regular upright. The weight and suction, though, elevate it to first choice, and it's only battery life that limits this use.It seems a little cheap that this stick only comes with one battery and a single station charger - but then it only cost me $180. I sincerely hope, when I purchase an additional Linx battery, that it comes with its own charger. If you buy one to be your main vacuum then you'll disappointed - unless you've the square footage of a postage stamp. If you buy it as a convenient support to your main cleaner, then you'll be delighted.

Customer Rating A bit disappointed, 2009-03-02
This review is for: Top Deals Hoover LINX Cordless Stick Vacuum Sales
I had a Eureka stick vac for years and it finally bit the dust (so to speak) and I needed to replace it. I wanted something that would work well on my new hardwood floors and have good suction for quick touchups on my area rugs. This vacuum has good suction and I love the switch at fingers reach to switch between hardwood and carpet. I have a heavily shedding dog and it picks up the hair very well. My issues are two design flaws. The first is the battery life. Come on - a 15 minute battery on a nearly $200 vacuum???? That's ridiculous. I barely get thru 3 rooms and it is dead. A replacement battery runs $60 which when combined with the cost of the vacuum is the same as purchasing 4 of the Eureka's I had. The battery charger is also very finicky. If a large truck drives by it jostles the battery and it no longer has good contact to charge. If you stick the battery in the charger right out of the vacuum it is too hot and it won't charge until it cools which takes about 15-20 minutes on top of the regular charge time of nearly 3 hours. The second complaint is the dust cup. The latch is poorly designed and the "hatch" won't open to empty without pulling on which has netted me incredibly dirty hands twice now when emptying it. I think this has a great potential but for the cost I'm not happy with these two issues. When I clean I don't want to schedule 3 hours between rooms. I want it done and over with. I think Hoover needs to rethink the spare battery cost. I think this one is going to go back because the cost is simply not justified with these two siginificant issues.

Customer Rating This is the vacuum I've been looking for, 2009-06-01
This review is for: Top Deals Hoover LINX Cordless Stick Vacuum Sales
For years I have been searching for the perfect "every day" vacuum. I have a Dyson that is great for weekly cleaning and heavy-duty jobs, but it seemed like overkill for the everyday stuff. We have a tile kitchen floor and lots of hardwood, plus a couple of area rugs here and there. With two kids and a dog, it has been a constant battle trying to keep up with the dog hair, the dust bunnies and the dirt that gets clomped out of baseball cleats near the kitchen door. I have a Swiffer, 2 different Roombas, a Shark, and a Hoover Flair, all of which I really love for different reasons, but they all fell short of being THE vacuum for me for constant use. I have a very bad back and two bad knees, so anything requiring me to bend over (cords), place back on a charger, unplug, get on the floor to empty, etc. was pretty hard on me. I'm embarrassed to say, it often just didn't get done and we frequently just lived with dust bunnies until I would get disgusted and do it the old fashioned way, with a broom and dustpan.A few weeks ago, I saw the commercial for the Hoover Linx on TV. I don't usually pay much attention to paid ads anymore, but my ongoing quest for a vacuum compelled me to check the reviews on Amazon. I pulled the trigger on buying it just before going on vacation and literally couldn't wait to get home to try it, which I realize is a little nuts.It took less than 5 minutes to peruse the instructions and assemble the 3 pieces. Once the battery was charged, I took it for a spin and was sold before I even finished the kitchen. This thing is great! As everyone else has said, the suction is top-notch. The battery does begin draining fairly quickly, but this is of no consequence to me. I move quickly, I'm able to get through my kitchen, living room, front hall, tiny powder room and large family room and haven't had it run out on me yet, although by the time I'm finished the battery is down to 1 bar.To me, the best part about this vacuum are how easy it is to use and how everything on the vacuum is within easy reach for someone like me with a back problem. The battery is fairly high up, as is the power switch. Yes, I have to bend down to empty the container, but if my back is really bothering me, it's light enough to hoist it onto a stool to more easily reach it. Because it's SO easy to use, I'm using it constantly. It is ALMOST fun to vacuum now! And because I'm using it daily, if not a couple of times a day (since it's as easy to grab as a Dust Buster), the dirt doesn't stand a chance -- it never has time to build up. The weekly Dyson may only need to make an appearance every 2 weeks now, and even then, only to get the upholstery and under some furniture that the Linx can't quite reach.I've moved the heavier Hoover Flair upstairs to use in the bedrooms, but to be honest, I'm thinking about buying a 2nd Linx. It's wonderful not to be tethered to a cord and have to stop, unplug, plug in at another location, etc.In my opinion this is truly a ground-breaking vacuum. I have to imagine that cordless vacuums will only improve, although this one would be hard to beat except to extend the battery life. I'm a very happy customer.

Customer Rating Fantastic for hardwoods and area rugs!, 2009-03-09
This review is for: Top Deals Hoover LINX Cordless Stick Vacuum Sales
I purchased this mainly for my hardwoods and area rugs. It is by far the best cordless vacuum I have ever had. This picks up cat hair and everything else wonderfully! It does a very good job on our area rugs as well. It doesn't work as great on our plush rugs, as it leaves piles of the cat hair behind on the top of the rug (although to be fair it does suck up a good amount). I still prefer my Dyson for those. However, for what I purchased it for (the hardwoods) I could not be happier. It gets dried cat food crumbs up as well as fine dirt particles and Cheerios. The battery life is not great (about 12-15min), and for the price I think it should have come with two. I would be more inclined to purchase another battery if the price were closer to 25.00 instead of 60.00. So if you are like me with pets and a baby crawling on your tile and hardwoods, I think this is still worth the money. I love that I don't have to go over and over the floor. If you are thinking about getting this for plush carpeting or to do your whole house, I might not recommend it unless you plan on purchasing a second battery (but the the total investment you might as well get a more substantial vacuum). Having said all of that, this is still the best cordless vacuum I have yet to purchase. Unlike other reviewers I have not had a problem with the battery connection as of yet.April 10thI have found that I use this so much I really wanted the extra battery. I found it on sale at a store I had a gift card for and purchased another unit. It only cost me 50.00 more than purchasing the extra battery along with the charger. Worth it. The more I use it, the more I love it. My floors have never looked so good.

I have owned more vacuums than I care to count. I have wood floors in my kitchen, dining room and den. I have thick plush carpet in the rest of the house. I have a Braun canister vacuum for wood floors which is a pain to pull out on a daily basis so I wanted something I could park in a hidden corner of my kitchen that I could use daily. For 5 years I have suffered with an Electrolux stick vacuum that won't pick up anything so when I saw the ad for this vacuum I decided to buy one. I am so pleased with it. The vacuum not only picks up all the crumbs but picks up dry cat food that vacuums usually spit out the back. The only thing I wish it could do is adjust a bit lower than it can. I was not expecting any kind of performance on carpet but much to my surprise it actually did a good surface job. So good that I had to empty the cup halfway through. It moved with great ease on my carpet and throw rugs with the exception of a thick oriental rug in my dining room. The vacuum was hard to push against the nap of the rug. I thought the Hoover was easy to put together (one screw). I find the dirt cup easy to put in and take out and empty. One thing I had to do was turn it over after vacuuming and clean out cat hair (I have two persians) from the brush. The long hair had wrapped around the brush like a spool of thread. The vac is also very light weight. The battery is easy to insert and I had plenty of power left after vacuuming my whole house.
