I looked at a lot of other vacuums before choosing this one. It SEEMED to be built well and the design/engineering would be very handy and effective. I got it home and was amazed at how well it picked up dirt. To my disappointment however, after a week of use, it started to malfunction. First, I noticed the brush roller seemed to stop spinning on carpet. Then shortly afterward, the vacuum would shut itself off repeatedly after the first couple minutes of operation. The manual says this vacuum is designed to shut itself off when there is a blockage inside it to prevent overheating. Well I checked and rechecked for a blockage, cleaned the filter and brush roll but it still did the same thing. I contacted Electrolux customer service and they would not admit this was a common problem nor would they tell me if there was a fix for this problem but if you research reviews on other web sites, it appears to be happening quite often. Instead of going through the hassle of going to my nearest service center 40 miles away, I returned the vacuum for a refund. I really liked the vacuum at first but will not try another one. I found a Hoover Elite Windtunnel with a 6 year warranty. Don't bother with this model, you will eventually regret it. By the way, if you are looking for the quality Electrolux vacuum of the past, these are not it. These are made in China by the same company that makes Eureka. The old Electrolux was bought by a company called Aerus Lux.

The first one lasted about two months and then the roller brush stopped working correctly. I took it back to the store and they gave me a new vacuum. Then two months later, the roller brush stopped working on the second one. One of the end caps on the roller brush was bad. I called the company and they sent me a new one but while putting in the new roller I noticed the belt had started to fall apart. The belt was less than two months old and half of the rubber was warn away. So, I returned it for a full refund. Bottom line is this vacuum has great suction but is not built to last. I am now shopping for a new vacuum.

I've had the same problem as other reviewers. The brush roller on mine stopped working after less than a month. The end cap on one side had melted. I called the company and they sent a new one. After about a month and a half the check brush roll light came on. The problem seems to be the way the end cap is designed it lets hair get in there and stop it from spinning. I decided to be diligent about cleaning out the hair, since I only vacuum one 5x8 rug I figured I'd take it apart once a month and clean it out. I guess that wasn't enough because it only took two weeks this time. The end cap is melted again and I'll need to buy a new one.

I have deliberately waited 6 months after purchasing this vacuum to write a review. I wanted to give myself ample time to use this vacuum and become accustomed to it. I am a previous Electrolux owner, so I thought I was going to be pleased and familiar with this product. I can tell you unequivocably that this vacuum is a HUGE disappointment. The product reviews I read at the time of my purchase were entirely different from my experiences with "it". The vacuum does have very good. suction, WHEN IT IS WORKING. The beater bar, hose, debris reservoir, or filter gets clogged about every other use. Then you have to stick your hand up inside the nasty debris reservoir to pull out what ever thing clogged it up. The vacuum is veeeery heavy, I would not purchase if you have any kind of joint or muscle health issue ie. arthritis, fibromyalgia. Forget about using this monster on carpeted steps, it's difficult to even carry the thing much less actually vacuum with it on steps. There is an attachment for furniture but the suction is not strong enough to use on steps. Although the suction is very good, I have not managed to vacuum up anything bigger than the size of a nickle without the thing clogging up, then acting like it's going to over heat. And forget about vacuuming anything other than dust bunnies or small bits of paper or dirt debris. The thing just can't handle it, very bad design. The latest lovely event that happened all of a sudden is the hose has become unglued and pulls out of the machine constantly when using the attachments, even after my husband has tried to glue it back in. The base of this behemouth is so big it is impossible to reach under furniture or even an 18 inch high bed. Bottom line: I HATE this vacuum. I am ashamed I spent so much money on it. NOBODY has time to deal with this kind of mess. I would pay just to get my 24 year old Electrolux canister model back. Maybe your experience will be different than mine, but don't say you weren"t warned!

This Electrolux is beautiful, ergonomic and performed nicely when it was new, but very soon, the problems began. During light and normal usage within the first few weeks, the beater bar stopped turning and I took it apart to check it out. What I found was a felt gasket which allowed hair and dirt to easily get past, destroying the bearing on the end of the beater bar. After Electrolux scolded me about cleaning the beater bar, they reluctantly sent me a new part under warranty. Although I kept the vacuum relatively clean over the next few months, the same problem occurred once again and the felt and rubber seals around the bearing disintegrated leaving the second bearing locked up solid. Vaccuum cleaners are meant to clean up hair and dirt, but this design is incapable of doing that for more than a few months before a predictable catastophic failure.

I shopped around for my wife on the internet, trying to purchase what I thought was a decent vacuum. We ended up going to Sears and rummaged through their selection for about two hours and settled on this one. We got it home and were more than satisfied with the power and really impressed with the suction of the hose only to be soon dissapointed with the hose pulling out of the end of the connection on the vacuum itself making it impossible to use the hose. I called the service provider only to find out they were about 60 miles away and they were waiting on a new hose for another customer. Forget it! I was so stinking mad as I had spent over 300.00 on this "Beautiful" machine, boy do I feel stupid. Finally glued the hose back together only to have the internal hose plug where I ended up taking the machine apart to unplug it. Here we are 6 months out and the hose suction stopped working and I can't get it to work anymore. I doesn't even clean that good with the regular floor brush as the suction isn't as good as it was when new. Save your money. I HOPE THESE CROOKS THAT MAKE THIS MACHINE ARE SLEEPING GOOD AT NIGHT.

I unfortunately chose the Electrolux Versatility over a Dyson. The price was half of the price of the Dyson and I foolishly thought that Electrolux had a great reputation and made a quality product. Boy, was I ever wrong.The first few times I used it I was very impressed with the suction power and the way it cleaned. But like the other reviewers state, this vacuum has a fatal flaw. There is no cover over the ends of the beater brush, which allows hair, lint, etc to get trapped in the space between the end of the beater brush and the end cap. The dirt continues to build up with every use until it stops the beater brush from spinning. The end cap will begin to melt from the friction. As a result, about once a week, I have to take the vacuum apart, remove the beater brush and clean out the junk under the end cap and then put it back together. It will then work for about a week until the dirt builds up again and the brush will stop spinning. This is totally unacceptable and preposterous that a company like Electrolux would make such a shoddy, flawed product.Do not waste your money on this vacuum, any vacuum has to be better than this one. The beater brush will eventually stop working on every single one of these vacuums and unless you are capable of taking it apart, cleaning it out and reassembling it weekly, you will be in for expensive vacuum repair bills and your vacuum will constantly be in the shop. Save yourself from aggravation and frustration, DO NOT BUY THIS VACUUM! I will also be wary of purchasing anything from Electrolux again since this is such a poor quality product. It makes me wonder about the rest of their products.I wish I had purchased the Dyson and when this piece of junk finally dies, I will get a Dyson.

Don't waste your money with this. I bought it because I trusted the name and wanted a good vacuum, even if expensive. It constantly clogs up and is very difficult to clear. The belt breaks, comes off and constantly has to be taken apart to repair. A new belt cost me $15.00. It quickly lost suction despite frequent cleaning of filters. It's big and heavy. It quickly became a fight to get the handle to go down so I could vacuum. I had to fight with each time. I could not disengage the dirt container, had to have my son pry it out each time. After a year, I'm putting it out for the trashman, replaced it with a Shark Navigator.

I own the 8505 model, which looks identical to this, but the trim is green instead of orange. I've had it for about 2 years now and have had no issues of any kind with it. Well, once my girlfriend vacuumed up about a dozen puzzle pieces with the hose and I had to dig those out, but I'd say any vacuum short of a shopvac would have a problem there. Anyway, I've had none of the problems these other reviewers are talking about and I own 3 cats, one of which is long hair, and an Australian shepherd, which is also long hair. So I've got some serious pet hair in my house. This vacuum has never failed me and is so easy to clean and empty, even my girlfriend can do it. Sometimes. I will agree that it is pretty heavy, but no heavier than any other vacuum with equal suction power. I'll also add that I own an Electrolux washer and their smaller Rapido(the orange one, not the green) vacuum and both of those are excellent products as well.

Overall recommend this product. But beware that it is heavy. Runs very quietly.
