I've had this vacuum for several months now, and I'm quite puzzled by the negative reviews it's gotten. It DOES sound like maybe there were some lemons out there, but once these folks figured out how to work it, or got it replaced it was ok.We have 2 very long-haired dogs--there is always a TON of dog hair on the carpet. Plus we're all "indoor outdoor" so there's plenty of dirt getting tracked on our carpets too. I vacuum about once a week. I turn this vac on and it does an awesome job--it's got so much suction that I have to turn down the volume when I go over my throw rugs or it lifts them off the ground. It has incredible suction through the wand too--I have nabbed flying insects from several inches away this last week--hah!I can't stand the enormous mess of bagless vacs (a ridiculous trend in vacs if you need heavy duty cleaning), and this vac has disposable HEPA bags--which was tops on my list. The bags that are meant to be purchased with it contain the unpleasant dog smell which eventually accumulates--and they work great!!! I've never had a vac that did that.It's got a very simple on/off switch, not a foot pedal, which I'm happy about. It has multiple on-board attachments. It has a nice large valve (?) that you turn to go from floor to hose suction--always a problem previously for me. And it has the ability to turn off the rotating brush when you're working on bare floors--although I don't have a problem w/ keeping it on when I'm going over the tile in kitchen.It has an enormous long cord which lets me cover a HUGE amount of living room/dining room without switching outlets.My ONLY complaint is that the latch that lets you release it from it's upright position is slightly difficult for me to get it to work in my houseshoes/boots. But I figure that's me and my selection of footwear--I eventually give it enough pressure and it releases.I honestly can't say enough good things about this vac--it has enormous power, no smell, long cord, can do carpet or hard floors well, etc. It's not ultra-light or quiet--but I've had dogs long enough to know that I can't get the cleaning I want w/ some wimpy vac. But it's not so heavy I have a problem with it--maybe my mother would, she's 75. It rolls really well though, so you can just roll it backwards on 2 wheels very very easily. And the husband says it's a lot quieter than the last one, a Dirt Devil which didn't so squat. so go figure.It DOES the job it says it will do--I couldn't be more pleased w/ something I absolutely depend on.

I have owned this vacuum for two years and have never had a problem. This vacuum performs! It picks up everything and makes our carpet look new again. Pet hair no problem, no odor or dust with HEPA filter. The pet paw is a very useful tool. As far as other reviews, I have read everything from brushes burning up to belts breaking. All I can say is READ THE OWNERS MANUAL BEFORE OPERATING!!! No suction...check the select knob for hose. Vacuum hard to push...set adjust knob for carpet to a higher setting. The brush is so powerful if set too low it will pull up loose carpet and drag itself across the floor. This could lead to broken belts and brushes. This adjustment is very important! Maintain your brush roller, long hair can get wrapped up in and cause brush roller to melt. This a very powerful machine by far the best vacuum for the price that I have ever owned!

The vacuum is exactly what I thought it would be. It has a great motor we had a Ricarr before and it is way better than that at half the price. I was looking at a Dyson but they are so over priced. I am very happy with this vacuum it is a little heavy for my daughters to lug upstairs but I can do that for them the trade off is worth it. I would expect it to be heavy because of the motor it is the best dirt sucker I have ever owned. For the money you won't get better just make sure it is a 4870 model and you won't go wrong. I noticed the other two reviews before me mentioning serious problems with their 4870SZ so I thought it worthwhile to add my experience. The first one that arrived just didn't work. Didn't pick up dirt. Call Eureka customer service and they couldn't figure out the problem so they told me to bring it to an authorized service center. That seemed pretty ridiculous to me (I shouldn't have to drag it around to get repaired when I bought it new and allegedly working!) and I told the service agent that. Then she told me I also had the option to return it to Amazon. So I shipped the big heavy thing back to Amazon for an exchange. Amazon was great because they paid for the return shipping and within two days I had the replacement vac. Well this one seems to work pretty well. The only weird thing is that when I first turn it on it seems to move forward on its on like a self propelled lawnmower (which is nice!) but within a few minutes it becomes much harder to push. I haven't had a chance to call customer service again and ask them if it is supposed to be like that or not. Speaking of Eureka customer service the woman who I had on the phone seemed to know less about the vac than I did after reading the directions only once! That was disconcerting. Anyway my bottom line is it seems to work fine now for me but you might want to do some more research first. And thanks to Amazon for making the exchange so easy and painless!

I adore the Eureka Boss! It works like no vacuum I've ever used. The power of the brush makes it move practically on its own and it picks up dirt, pet hair and all manner of debris with no problem. We have 2 cats, a dog and a 6 year old boy so I've gotten to test its abilities with sand, small rocks, small sticks - you name it.There are several things to remember when using the vacuum - like remembering to switch from the hose setting to the floor setting, and remembering to lock the brush in the 'on' position - but once you get used to it there's no problem. I thought the switch to turn on the brush was really difficult until I realized that it slides right into place when you've tilted the handle back. And when you put the handle back upright, it disengages the brush so you have to remember to turn it back on again. I also read a review that said this vacuum is loud and heavy but I disagree. It's about the same weight as my old Dirt Devil and not nearly as loud. I also read that people had trouble tilting the handle back. I did, too, until I realized that the foot button goes to the side, not to the back like other vacuums.I love that all the attachments are secure on the body of the vacuum. I don't have to worry about knocking them off. On my old machine I eventually just took the attachents off entirely because I got tired of picking them up.My favorite thing about this vacuum is the Pet Paw. Those 2 cats and dog that I mentioned love to sleep on the funiture. It used to take me a lot of time with a lint brush and towel to just get the hair off. But with the Pet Paw the hair is gone in minutes and so is the dust from the furniture.

I've only had this vacuum about 5 weeks but so far it does everything I want or expect and does it well. Because I have a combination of tile and carpet along with a very large, very hairy dog and a large fuzzy cat, I need a cleaner that does both types of flooring and picks up all the many kinds of dirt that come with two such animals. My requirements for a vacuum cleaner were that it be bagged no bagless for me, thanks anyway), adjust from hard floor to carpet and have strong suction to pick up the pet dirt. This one met all those requirements. The only quibble I have had with the Eureka is lack of information in the "Quick Start" instructions. The machine went together easily and those instructions were clear and precise, then I wanted to vacuum carpet. The lever on the head of the sweeper that you use to specify either bare floor or carpet would not engage in the carpet position, it kept flipping back to bare floor. After envisioning having to disassemble, pack up, ship back and being totally frustrated with the whole thing, I called Eureka Customer Service. It turns out that the handle has to be in the reclining position for that swith to engage, which was never mentioned in any of the instructions. I released the handle, moved the switch, it engaged and I was in business! Now how hard would it have been for Eureka to include that one small item in the Quick Start instructions? If they think that should be intuitive, they would be wrong, at least in my case. The machine IS a bit heavy, as other reviewers have noted, but not to the point of being unmanagable; I lift it over two baby gates that I have installed for my very rambunctious dog without problem. Additionally, the foot pedal to release the handle is a little stiff but I expect that will relax with use. I have seen reviewers compare this vacuum with a brand that sells for nearly 3 times what this does; if you are spending less than $200, you shouldn't expect the machine to perform the same as one that costs nearly $600. That being said, while I have never owned one of those VERY expensive machines, I can't imagine what they are capable of that this cleaner isn't. In any case, this one does everything I need and does it well...I'm just estastic to have a vacuum that I can use on tile floors! While I haven't had it long enough to address its durability, it seems to be very solid and well-made. I have always owned Hoovers so this is my first Eureka and, thus far, I am very well satisfied with it.

I had two other vaccuum cleaners that finally broke down. Both were Hoovers and served me well. I decided to try a different brand this time. After a lot of research on Amazon I chose the Eureka Pet Boss. It does a great job at getting up all the dirt and dog hair out of our carpet. (We have a Golden Retriever who leaves a lot of dog hair around.) I really like the attachment for the uphostery. It is more elaborate than any I've had in the past and seems to work better than the others. The only negative about this vaccuum cleaner is that it is heavy, and the release to make the vacuum go down is a little awkward because you have to press the release to the left side of the vaccuum cleaner instead of back towards you. Other than that I have no complaints and I'm glad I bought it.

I went through the many bagless vacuums and even used a Dyson and this vacuum out performs them all. First thing is that the bagless never lasted for more than a year with me and the suction was just not there. When I would go to empty the canister the dust that escaped made it pointless. The bag in this captures everything and with 3 dogs cleans up like a pro. The hose is not all that long but otherwise I can't say enough abou the suction on this vacuum.

This is the best vaccuum I've ever owned! I've had all kinds and this upright WITH a bag is PHENOMENAL! Upright-good for one's back. Bag vs. canister- cleaner, less dust, no odor! Buy ME!
