I have used this every day for years (I can't remember how many--but at least four years). I recently bought a new one only because I was afraid of scratching my floors due to the rollers not turning as well as they had before. I moved the old one down to my basement work area, and use the new one in the main living areas.I have three dogs (previously four) and two house rabbits, all of whom go through times of heavy shedding. During those times I sometimes vacuum certain areas twice a day. There has never been any maintenance problem with this vacuum cleaner. The suction is strong enough for me to do my rag rugs and area rugs, and the rollers don't scratch my wood floors. It's easy on my back, conveniently converts to a hand vac, and is easy to take out and use at a moment's notice (no tedious unwinding of long cord). One reviewer did write that this vacuum is hard to clean. I clean mine by dumping the bulk of the debris into the trash, then vacuuming the filter periodically with my Kenmore heavy-duty vacuum cleaner. The chamber holds a lot of dust, so even when my pets are heavily shedding, I don't empty it more than every 2 - 3 days.If I only could have one vacuum cleaner, this would be it.

My wife and I are very, very pleased with this lightweight vacuum cleaner. I should like to tell you how we came to buy it and why we are so happy with the purchase.Recently my wife stated that she wanted a second lightweight vacuum cleaner for quick touch-ups in addition to our two main Eureka 4870MZ Boss Smart-Vac Upright HEPA Vacuum Cleaners. (We live in a two-story house and keep one of these relatively heavy vacuum cleaners on each level.)We saw a Shark Multi-Vac, NH15 advertised at a very low price (even lower than Amazon's!) at a local "big-box" store but after doing some research here on Amazon, we saw so many customer complaints about this product (even from some who liked it), especially as regards changing the configuration, emptying the dust cup, and changing the filter, that we decided against buying it. (It seemed to us that this product was of very poor design.)After much more extensive research of Amazon customer reviews of many of these lightweight vacuum cleaner products, we decided to consider two: this Bissell FeatherWeight Vacuum, Bagless, 3106B and a Eureka Lightweight Easy Clean Upright Vacuum Cleaner. However, we could not decide, from the descriptions and reviews, which of the two would be "better" so we bought one of each! (We decided that it would be much more convenient to have one of these smaller vacuums on each level, an easy decision given their low prices.)Now Amazon may have thought we were going to try each and return the one we didn't like. We had no such intention. And, in fact, we like both of them and we shall keep both of them. Both of these are so easy to assemble right out of the box that few, if any, people would even need to look at the instruction manual. They both assemble easily and their parts fit together perfectly. Now there are some design differences which do not make themselves apparent until after you actually own the products. In our opinions, the Eureka is better designed physically than is the Bissell. The Eureka has a telescoping handle so that it is much easier to change the configuration to use as a handheld or as an upright. This has two further benefits: 1) you do not need to store the handle separately when using the vacuum as a handheld and 2) you can wrap the cord for storage with the handle extended or collapsed. You cannot do these two processes with the Bissell. You must physically remove the handle to use it as a handheld and you must replace the handle in order to wrap the cord for storage. Not that this would be a "deal-breaker" but it is an inconvenience, especially when compared to the Eureka. In addition, due to the placement of the cord on the Bissell, wrapping it for storage is somewhat awkward, again, however, certainly not a "deal-breaker."However, my wife feels that the plastic used for the Bissell's construction is of a much higher grade than is that used on the Eureka. In addition, the Bissell FeatherWeight and Easy Mate Filters are sold at a low price conveniently here on Amazon (we bought extras) but those for the Eureka are not. (The filters for both vacuums are washable by hand and would not need to be replaced until they wore out.)It is somewhat less awkward to empty the dust cup on the Eureka than it is with the Bissell. Replacing the filter on both is easy and convenient. My wife has complained that both vacuums have relatively short cords which may, in some parts of our house, require the use of an extension cord. Also she complains that neither has a place to store the included crevice nozzle. But ALL of these quibbles, especially as regards the slight inconveniences of the Bissell vs. the Eureka, are quite minor and are certainly forgivable in view of their VERY low prices. (The Bissell is less expensive than the Eureka but in our opinions both offer excellent value for money.)Really, at least according to us, it is a "photo-finish" as regards their vacuuming performance - excellent at what they are designed to do - and desirability. Now we have read that some people have complained that these lightweight stick vacuums do not deep clean carpets well. Of course they don't! That is NOT what they are designed to do.As I stated, this Bissell model does a simply excellent job at its actual intended purpose: cleaning of bare floors and light touch-ups on carpets. So does the Eureka.Obviously, as we received these units just two days ago, we cannot comment on their longevity. Were the Bissell to fail prematurely, I would update this review. So, if you are considering buying one, both my wife and I give our wholehearted recommendation to this little Bissell unit (as well as to the Eureka model).I thank you for reading this and I hope that it is of some help to you.

and that's a good thing... i have this model, a 3106-1 - the Bissell Featherweight Bagless, and a very similar model from the same manufacturer (both are made in China), the 38B1-3 - the Bissell 3-in-1 Vac...these are nearly identical and cost exactly the same locally and on-line... i say 'nearly identical,' as they weigh the same, have the same length cord, share the same ergonomics (handle, cord storage, assembly, emptying, etc.), and similar suction...rest assured that this model will work just as well, if not better than the 3-in-1... but here are the differences:- this model has a 1.2A motor, whereas the 3-in-1 has a 2A motor - nod to 3-in-1- both models come with a crevice tool, as does the 3-in-1 - even score- this model has an opaque canister, so you cannot see how much dirt has been vac'd, whereas the 3-in-1 is translucent - nod to 3-in-1 - one star off on my review- both models are easy to empty - even score- parts, accessories, and manuals are available on-line through Bissell - good job! BUT the replacement dirt filter for the 3-in-1 is $3 cheaper ($2.99 vs $5.99)!!! nod to the 3-in-1- both models lack a lanyard hole or ring in the handle for easy storage - both will slide off the wall more than not if you try to store upright - what was the designer thinking? heck, even the Swiffer Vac has a little handle ring (and it is a worthless POS - AVOID!)the fix: drill a hole through the handle - therefore, another star off my reviewbut considering the cost, ease of use, ease of cleaning, performance, and light weight of these little corded buggers - which are much better than the over-priced Eureka rechargeable Vac (which you will be throw away in less than a year), i rate this vac a GOOD BUY!

Good suction, even for a glorified dustbuster. It's basically a dustbuster with a long handle. I was quite surprised, however, of its suction. I have a german shepherd that sheds like crazy, and this little guy did a nice job with the animal fur as well as the usual dust or crumbs from the kids. However, don't bother using it on even a very thin bathroom rug or area rug, as it won't work on either. The suction isn't strong enough for that. It is basically made for quick cleanup on hard flooring. It holds a lot and doesn't clog at all. Great find for only $20.

Many years ago products like this were sometimes called "electric brooms" and that is a more useful way to think of it, you simply can't get a real functional vacuum cleaner at this price. After reading tons of reviews I decided that this product might meet my needs (and that many of the unhappy reviewers wanted it to do something I was not expecting it to do.) I'm glad I took a chance. Like many reviewers I got it for daily pickup of animal stuff.... fur, dropped bits of dry food, litter. It works just fine for that. In researching different brands and models it took me a little while to figure out some options, so I will mention them in case you are like me. I'd rather not have to empty debris from the cup, yet preferred that over buying and replacing bags. I also chose one with a plug over one with batteries needing recharging. A really great feature of this particular model is the attachments, and the fact that it converts to a hand held version. (I like to use the narrow upholstery tool on the end of the wand, to get the edges by the baseboards and other harder to reach places.) I have only had it a short while so can't comment on the longevity. Like many others, I sigh over the fact that the quality of consumer goods has plummeted the way it has. I consider this the fault of the manufacturers, not the nations whose workers are hired to make inferior goods to the specifications set by the manufacturers. You have to be "of a certain age" to know what the difference is, and it does mean that shoppers can't always rely on brand names we used to trust. But I can always go back to an old fashioned broom should I need to.

The Bissell Featherweight Vacuum is a great choice for someone like me who has a bad back and can't push around a heavier vacuum. It's also handy where you live on two floors and don't want to haul your "main" vacuum cleaner up and down the stairs. In my situation we have hardwood floors with 3 small carpets below; that's where I keep the Featherweight. It has remarkable suction for such a small vacuum. My only complaint is that it is pretty much impossible to properly clean the (non-disposable) filter bag without scooping out the debris with your hands. (I guess gloves would help...) Still, at this price, there's not much to complain about.

I've never written an Amazon review before-- but I am in LOVE with this little vacuum. I originally bought it two years ago for my dirty dorm room-- I needed something cheap and light... I've used this almost daily since then.. Sucks up hair (I have very long, thick hair), cleans area and other low-pile rugs.. does a great job picking up food in the kitchen (grains of rice and the like). In short, if you're looking for something cheap to keep your house tidy-- this is it. Don't spend money on more expensive bagless stick vacuums-- this is the one!

I've had this vacuum for over a year now. I bought it because it was inexpensive but, even though it still works, I'm shopping for another stick vac. This is literally a dust buster on a stick. The intake hole is less than 2 inches across and the dirt cup is very small as well. I wanted something I could use to pick up crumbs in the kitchen(ceramic tile) and dirt tracked in by the kids in the entry (hardwood)- this is ineffective at best. It takes forever to vacuum the kitchen and it does a poor job. I'm so frustrated by it's poor performance that I'm willing to go out and buy a replacement.

I read all the reviews on here before I bought this vacuum last week, and decided it was worth some bad reviews, since there seemed to be enough good ones. The people who wrote the good ones must be very, very lucky. This vacuum couldn't pick up crumbs, let alone pet hair and cat litter. Little to no suction. Sprayed dust everywhere. Terrible waste of time and money. I sent it back the next day and bought a Dirt Devil Breeze Bagged Upright, which works great and has fantastic suction, and only costs about 15 dollars more.Don't waste your time on a gamble like I did, there is a very good chance you won't be one of the lucky few for whom this vacuum actually seems to work.

For the first time in years I am enthusiastic about a vacuum cleaner!! I have had enormous uprights, several canister types and other very popular stick vacs, but this is by far the best. I had great results on the floors, rugs and it picks up just about everything I have come across so far. I have the grey version and just ordered another in the blue and might order another so I can keep them in different rooms without having to use an extension and since they are so cute I will leave them out as a reminder to vacuum more since I am an artist and live in creative lala land as much as possible and housework is something I put on the back burner.
