My son received this as a Christmas gift when he was 18 months old. He played with it for SIX HOURS straight. We even had to take it with us on our visits later in the day because he would not leave it behind. "Being like mom/dad" is so important at that age and this I attribute to the popularity. The fact that it also teaches my son that his masculinity will not shrivel if he touches a vacuum cleaner (!) is an educational plus for me. The *only* downfall of this toy is that it is not particularly durable. Both myself and a friend own it and both found that the front cover began to detach almost immediately and eventually had to be taped on. The hose also fell off. So much so that now, not quite two years later - if I want one for my now 18 month old daughter, we will need a new one. ....

My son got this as a gift when he was 2. He refused to open another gift at the party and began trying to rip the box open to get the vacuum out! That would have been enough, but he would use that vacuum all over the house, even attaching MY vacuum's attachments to the hose and "cleaning" the crevices. He is almost four and still loves to "vacuum" with me. The toy held up pretty well, considering it's been 2 years. The hose attachment broke and doesn't stay on anymore, but he doesn't care. When he was smaller and completely enthralled we would pack the vacuum with us on visits and even vacations, but the novelty has since passed. I think he has learned a bit about tidiness and that cleaning can be more fun than it looks. I know it is more fun for me, chasing him with my vacuum while I clean up the floor. Now my sister is asking for one for her 18 month old for Christmas. I highly recommend this toy.

My son received this toy as a gift when he was about twenty months old and I must say that it is definitely one of his favorite toys. He was so fascinated by the real vacuum cleaner and now he actually feels as though he is really vacuuming. He reaches for his toy vacuum first thing every morning and it definitely occupies him for long periods of time. The nice thing is it is so durable and easy to use. I love the button that can be pressed to make noise(and it's not loud either) that makes it seem even more like a real vacuum. There are not all that many toys that he loves the way he loves this one and I can see him enjoying it for many years to come. It is also very inexpensive and is well worth the money.

My 3 year old boy loves this toy. Until obtaining this vacuum, he never wanted to help me with the chores. Now, I no longer ask him to do it. He vacuums for hours and gets so much satisfaction and pride to see his accomplishments. Along with the company making this product looking like the real vacuum, it really picks up dirt. Upon taking my vacuum out, he runs to get his to do the chores along with me. I think this product was the smartest thing Dirt Devil could have ever come out with for children. My little boy feels so much like a grown up. I just love to see the enjoyment he gets out of this toy. It is definitely one of the best toy we have bought for him.

My son has been fascinated with the vacuum cleaner since he was a year old. He would stand at the closet and scream whever I put it away. I bought this hoping to ease his anxiety when I was tired of cleaning! He loves this toy. He is now just over 2 and goes to find his vacuum whever mommy is vacuuming. He loves the button that he can push himself to turn it "on" and the light is great. It would be nice if it actually picked up dirt but you can't beat it for the price. It's quiet, has no pieces to break or get lost, and is very inexpensive. He uses it on a regular basis and I've never had to replace the batteries in the year+ that I've had it. It shuts off automatically after a minute or so.

If you can find one of these, buy it! My 17-month-old daughter absolutely loves this toy. The first night we got it, she actually wanted to sleep with it! The reasons we love it.... 1.It is very small and lightweight, so she can carry it easily from room to room. 2.The realistic sound is not too loud, is easy to turn on (she figured out how to press the button within a minute or so) and turns itself off after about 30 seconds. 3.It makes a fun clacking sound when pushed (in addition to the "motor" sound, so that even if the child doesn't press the button to activate the motor, there is still a neat sound) and is VERY easy to push and pull. 4.A headlight comes on with the sound, which she loves. 5.It comes with batteries already installed! For such a low price, you just cannot do any better. All in all, I am really pleased with this purchase.

I'm not sure why the bad reviews. We bought one and it is EXACTLY what we were hoping it would be. My kids play with it a million times a day, and we haven't had one thing break on it, it runs on the carpet just fine, and it makes a very low noise (so it isn't annoying). I'm not sure why other reviews say it is cheaply made. We have been more than pleased and give it two thumbs up! We would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a toy vacuum!

This toy is great. If you have a little one who loves to clean when you clean then this is a very inexpensive way to satisy them and let you get some work done.This vacuum makes noises like a real vacuum and lights up. It looks just like a miniature vacuum too. Ours has shown to be very durable, but I could definitely see if breaking if mistreated severely. If it just plastic and the shape makes it vulnerable at stress points, but that is what makes it look so much like a real vacuum. Plus, keep in mind that it is only about ... so if it is broken you have not lost a major investment. If your child plays rough, I suggest just buying two of them, they cost so little. My daughter loves hers and your child probably will too. For the price I don't think you can beat this product at all!

I purchased this toy for my son when he was about 18 months old. He absolutely loves it. He vacuums inside, outside and in the car. He pushes the vacuum around the neighborhood to the playground. Whenever I start vacuuming, he immediately runs to his vacuum and helps. The cost of this toy is extremely cheap, especially considering the hours of fun play my son has derived from it. I highly recommend this toy for toddlers. The battery compartment does not always hold the batteries in tightly enough for the sound and lights function to work, but he is not very interested in that function anyway. Happy vacuuming!

We just retired our dirt devil after almost 2 years of very hard play. My son spotted it at a yard sale at the neighbor of my sister when we were there on vacation. I bought it used for $2 and he has vacuumed with me almost every time I vacuum for nearly 2 years. He is a very enthusiastic vacuumer and runs into my vac and walls rather hard. It held up well until just recently. It was two years old when we bought it. I don't understand the "flimsy" reviews. Ours was anything but. Good toy.
