I am not one to leave reviews, i normally just read what others say. But right now my friends and neighbors look at me funny when I start talking about my new vacuum because I can't stop with the accolades. I did read reviews on this vacuum, but they do not do it justice, this is a bada$$ piece of machinery. I have medium pyle carpet, and I can turn the brush off and it still pulls at the carpet! When you turn the brush on, it almost feels self propelled as the brush pulls it forward. I caught the end of a scarf(by mistake) and it sucked the entire thing into the hose before the brush shut off- looked like a cartoon it was so fast! with the canister 3/4 full, it still picked up loose cat litter and pet food. My carpet did not look dirty, but the first 5 feet I went back & forth I went over twice filled the canister a quarter of the way. My carpet runners have never been so clean, they look refreshed, newer even. My 20 yr old son commented on how much better our carpet looked and also said that it felt better, softer, "fluffier". My daughter made the smart-a;ec comment that I sound like an infomercial! My last vacuum sucked because it didn't suck, this vacuum doesn't suck because it sucks better than any other I've tried. This vacuum is absolutely awesome, print yourself out a 20% Bed, Bath & Beyond coupon and go get yourself one!!!(Sorry Amazon, but $160 for this vacuum is a steal!)Their slogan should be "Your vacuum sucks, but ours suck better!"

I love this. I am expecting my first baby and have become insane about cleaning. I wanted a new vacuum because the pet hair mine seamed to be leaving on the carpet. I looked at reviews all over. I debated between this and dyson. This was way more affordable so I decided to give it a shot.I put this together in a flash(pregnant)It seamed a little "cheep" So I was kinda worried about the parts being flimsy. So far they are not, its just very light weight.I wanted to do a test and see how good it was.(crazy prego mind I vacuumed part of my carpet with my old vacuum. I emptied the content of the old on a paper. Then I vacuumed the same swatch of Capet with my new shark. First thing I noticed was how easy it was for me to maneuver at 38weeks pregnant. Then I dumped the content of this vacuum on the paper to compare what had been lifted. I was amazed.First the pile of dirt was about 4-5times larger than the pile from my old vacuum.Second the dirt was different. My old vac pulled up pet hair and dust bunnies. The new vac had pulled up more pet hair, dust bunnies and also dirt! A lot of DIRT. I was amazed! Still am a few weeks later.Third My house gets very dusty. I dust weekly and at each dusting the new dust is thick enough I can write in it. I always thought it was from living in the country. Well now I don't need to dust! I guess the vacuum pulled so much dust out of my carpet that I actually have less in my house! Each time I dust I find less and less...its vanishing from my life!I have so much more wonderful things to say ...I spilled wet plaster on my carpet and this vacuum got it out! it dose wonders on hard floor too. My mini blinds are clean from the attachments. The cord is so long that I hardly have to move it.I LOVE THIS!

Although the differences are subtle, they could be very important to the customer. Nobody really has mentioned the differences, so here we go!From Vaccum Cleaner Advisor Site:"The Shark Navigator Lift Away NV350 and the Shark Navigator Lift Away Pro NV356E are similar machines but the two can quickly and easily be differentiated by their color. The NV350 is lavender in color while the NV356E is white and silver. The "Pro" is also a little heavier at about 14 lbs compared to 12.8 lbs for the NV350, and the "Pro" dirt canister is larger with a capacity (to the fill line) of 0.55 gallons while the NV350 dirt canister capacity (to the fill line) is 0.3 gallons. It should be noted that the canisters on both units can actually hold more but the recommended capacity before emptying is as stated above. There are a few other differences as well, such as vacuum dimensions."Had I known this before, I would have probably gotten this model for the extra capacity. Don't get me wrong, the NV356 is a great vaccum. If you don't have a thick carpet the 0.3 gallon capacity is probably fine. Either way you can't go wrong with either one.

I bought this unit and was really impressed at how light it was, how easy it was to push and how easy it was to manipulate around the room and obstacles. I was REALLY impressed as to how much dirt it picked up from a floor that had already been vacuumed with a Hoover Wind Tunnel the day before. However, it has to go back. My trouble is that the latches that hold the Dust Bucket down come loose all the time. They seem fine when the vacuum is off. But when you turn it on, the inherent suction (which is huge) pulls the dust bucket down just a few fractions of an inch. After it pulls it down, the latches are no longer "Tight" because they don't have enough tension to hold them in place. They pop out like little 3 inch wings waiting to be broke off. I studied the parts thourougly and think it is an engineering spec flaw. Nothing seems broke. I called Shark. The customer service was actually pretty decent. They were American, polite, English speaking, and had a model available to compare to mine. However, she could not turn her machine on inside their call center due to noise. Her only options were 1) use as is 2) send it in for 3-5 weeks for repair or replacement. BTW, the person on the phone never heard of this problem.Well...it is brand new, so I'll return.Be interested if any others have this Latching problem. I even contemplated using Velcro to augment the latches. But...it is brand new!I may try another to see if I by chance had a "single sample flaw" (I doubt it)FYI, I tried a Swivel Plus as well which is not a "Lift Away" model. There are pluses and minuses for both. The Swivel can be had for about $50 less than the Pro. The Pro is a tad more maneuverable than the Swivel Plus. I think the Pro is just better balanced. They clean about the same. Suction is great on both. The Swivel plus has a long extension hose, but it is so top heavy that you need another person to hold the vacuum upright if you want to vacuum stairs. At least with the Pro Lift Away, you can carry the cannister with you. Also...the Pro Dust bucket seems to get more dust stuck up in the upper compartment. The Swivel Plus does not, and usually just needs the bottom hatch opened to empty the dirt. (The Swivel Plus uses a different Dust Bucket latching mechanism...it works fine)The little Turbo brush on both works pretty well. Keep in mind it is "Air Powered"...not a motor. It will stall if you put pressure on the brush.I'd like to love this machine. But it just is not quite right, and I question long term reliability. And that "Send away for 3-5 weeks" is a downer for repair.

My 10 year old, self propelled Windtunnel is barely holding on so I have been on the lookout for a new vacuum. I bought and quickly returned a Dyson but still needed to find something. Someone recommended the Shark and I was hesitant at first, I associate it with infomercials / gimmicks. But after reading a lot of positive reviews, I decided to give it a try. I bought mine on sale from Kohls model NV356K, so I could return easier if needed.ProsSuction is GREAT. As good as the Dyson Animal I tried! When it arrived, I vacuumed my family room with my old windtunnel, then vacuumed again with the Shark. I wanted to see how much if any dirt my old vacuum was missing. I was SHOCKED! Seriously I could not believe how much dog hair and dirt was in the canister. Gross but impressive at the same time.Cord length is good. I don't need to unplug to do another room (like I did with the Dyson)Easy to maneuver around furniture - similar to how the "ball" worksYou can adjust the suction for lighter rugs, drapes etc.Canister size seemed like a decent size. My old vacuum used bags so it will take some getting used to dumping to canister without making a plume of dust. I imagine that will happen with any bagless. It empties from the bottom, so that is a plus.Canister unlatches to use on stairs. More helpful than I realized.Came with an assortment of accessories (model NV356K)Cons.Lacks on-board tool storage. Only 2 tools are stored on the vacuum, but one falls off.Hose is short and there is no extension wand on board, On the plus side, it's not as awkward as the Dysons.***Edited - there IS an extension wand on board, I don't know how I missed it, but it's thereOverall, it's definitely worth the money :)

Just got this today and vacuumed my whole house with superb results. Features I didn't know about but really like:1. Easy to empty dust cup, without leaving a mess.2. Two "on" positions; using position 1, the roller bar doesn't keep turning while you're cleaning with the attachments. Position 2 is for carpets.3. Very easy to assemble.4. Easy to maneuver around furniture and to turn completely around.5. Model NV356 includes a 24 inch long crevice tool, so less bending and reaching.6. Quieter than any vacuum I've ever had.7. Suction adjustment, so you can vacuum drapes or other light weight materials.8. Cord clip to keep the cord away from the roller bar.As other reviewers have said, when using the attachments, the vacuum can tip over, but this is easy to avoid by holding the vacuum still with one hand. I didn't use the lift-away feature and probably won't, as I was able to do what I wanted without detaching it. It easily cleaned my area rugs without lifting them or catching the edges in the roller.Negatives:1. The pet attachment got all the cat fur off a chair, but most of it got caught in the brush instead of going into the dust cup.2. The small crevice tool has a storage spot on the handle, but it kept falling off. These are minor issues that don't impact how the vacuum cleans. I thought I wanted a Dyson, but was put off by the cost. This vacuum performs as I expected a Dyson would, at less than half the cost.

Forget Oreck and Never Mind Dyson!I am rarely compelled to write reviews, but this fantastic vacuum warrants a 5-star review. I have owned an Oreck upright ($400 plus) for about 8 years and a Dyson canister vacuum ($400 plus) for two years. This Shark Navigator Pro leaves them both in the dust, which is only fair since they left the dust behind in the first place! With shedding pets (cat and dog), I'm always pulling out the vacuum both on "Satur-cleaning-day" and mid-week. This Saturday, halfway through vacuuming the first floor, I accidentally sucked up a cat toy with the Oreck upright, causing it to start spitting out the contents of the bag. I went upstairs to retrieve the Dyson canister to finish cleaning, which I did. (As an aside, I'm a little bit of a clean freak (most people clean before the cleaning lady comes over, well, when I had a cleaning lady, I cleaned after she left) and have a vacuum on each floor.)I debated with myself about taking the Oreck in for service or just getting a new vacuum since it was already 8 years old and I never really felt it cleaned carpets well enough. Still, even with the less than stellar performance on carpet, my house is 90% hard floors, with carpet only on the stairs and second floor hallway. Every other surface is hardwood or porcelain tile, which the Oreck handled well enough, and it was lightweight and relatively compact. During the debate I was having with myself on whether to fix the Oreck or buy a new vacuum, I happened upon a Shark Navigator infomercial. I was impressed with the Dyson comparison and especially with the lift-away canister feature none of the Dyson's have.I did a little research online, read all the favorable reviews, and today headed to Bed Bath and Beyond with a 20% off coupon (I love Amazon for most everything, but $40 off was worth driving to the store). I put the Shark together (something I also had to do with the Dyson canister) in about ten minutes, following the easy-to-understand directions, which I recommend reading first, then assembling. I plugged in the vacuum, and went over the wool runner I just vacuumed two days prior with the Oreck (pre-cat toy fiasco). Talk about horrified! The canister kept filling up and I was beyond disgusted. I vacuum at least once a week, which no one would ever believe based on the contents of the canister! I next vacuumed the area rug that I had vacuumed with the Dyson (post-cat toy fiasco). I didn't expect to see anything close to what I saw on the runner vacuumed with the Oreck, but there was enough dust from that area rug to raise an eyebrow or two -- especially when you consider the price of the Dyson compared to the Shark. Why pay twice as much for something that honestly doesn't do even a little bit better of a job than the Shark! People, I kid you not, I cannot overstate how well this vacuum works.Even though I have 90% hard floor surfaces, I am not sure why Shark bothered with the hard floor attachment. It seems like a great idea, but as far as I'm concerned, the base unit itself does a great job on hard floors (just turn off the beater brush, which is easy to do). I tried the lift-away feature and pet attachment and it works really well. As I mentioned, with dogs and cats, there's always hair someplace, and the Shark did great even on long cat hair. Finally, some reviewers have complained about the plastic parts on this vacuum. Yes, and so? The Dyson is also made from plastic, and costs twice as much! All the plastic parts seem solid enough. If there's something bad to say about this vacuum, I don't know what it could be. As far as I'm concerned, it's the best vacuum for the money, and even for twice the money (sorry, Dyson). Period.

Recently my Kirby died after 10 years. To be honest I was tired of buying the bags and belts for it anyway, so I happily started searching for a replacement. I always wanted a Dyson since I have a long haired dog, but could not see spending that amount of money again on another vacuum. I saw the infomercial for the purple vacuum like this one and all the great reviews, so decided I wanted to try it. Then I saw this professional version at my local Sam's Club and decided to purchase it since it came with a free iron and was cheaper than online. Can I say this is the BEST vacuum I have ever owned! I could not believe the dirt and dust it picked up from my carpets and floor rugs. It has great suction and makes my carpets (that are 10 years old) look 100x's better! This white one is slightly bigger than the purple one, and the container holds more debris. It comes with the same pet brush (also excellent-has a rotating brush on it like a small version of the floor roller), small crevice tool, small dust brush, and the separate bare floor cleaner (which has high quality pads you can put on it to help clean the non carpeted areas). You can also turn off the brush on this model to do bare floors if you don't want to change to the separate bare floor attachment.Tips:-Make sure to empty the canister frequently when you are cleaning for the first time, as it may fill up fast!-The hose did not stretch that far to me (but I am short) and when stretching it had a tendency to pull the vacuum over, so you may have to hold it.-Make sure to check your roller brush for hair and other things that may get wrapped around it. It has a bar across it so you cannot take it out, but I removed my dogs hair by cutting it with scissors and manually removing it.-It takes a little practice learning how to turn the pet brush on the stairs so that you can vacuum the space between the stairs, but it cleans great. So far I have used the dust brush on my drapes to dust them and it is great how you can adjust the suction so it does not suck them in. I have also used the crevice tool and dust brush on furniture and molding. I couldn't really think of any negatives. It would be nice if the dust brush attachment had more of an angle on it to help reach on top of furniture and it would be nice to be able to remove the roller brush for cleaning. It is easy to empty the canister but of course the inside gets dirty. I guess it could be rinsed out like the filter though. Overall I give this vacuum 5 stars, it is worth the money and you will certainly not regret it!

I've always purchased commercial quality upright and canister vacuums for our home. Typically, our vacuums have lasted over 20 years, including a high-quality canister (Thompson & Sons "Silver Knight") that is 38 years old! Thus, it was a bit of a leap of faith for me to purchase a "big box store" consumer-grade product, and especially one that's primarily marketed through Infomercials on TV. Here are my thoughts after a couple of weeks of use:PROs- high level of suction. I could certainly tell after vacuuming our wall-to-wall carpet due to the lifting of the nap, and the amount of dirt and pet hair in the dust reservoir- super cleaning action on carpet and bare floors with the bare floor tool and dusting pad- much lighter in weight compared to our previous commercial-grade upright, and therefore, easier to use and maneuver- well-designed dust reservoir, except for one horizontal strengthening strut within the plastic dust collection container. Pet hair tends to get caught in this area. Otherwise, it's very well-designed for dumping the dirt and pet hair into the garbage bin- nice attachments, although I'd pay a bit more for natural bristle brushes rather than nylon brushes with the upholstery brush- no expensive bags, and easy cleaning of the existing filters- a sealed system, thereby it doesn't emit any dust back into the room since it uses a HEPA exhaust filter- like the white color of this modelCONs- a bit on the noisy side, especially the high-pitched whine of the brush head, compared to the upright that it replaced (a Panasonic commercial upright with a low decibel level)- I'm concerned with the durability and longevity of the latches for the dust reservoir, both the attachment latches to the main structure, and those to dump the dirt. If these fail, will replacements be available?- the brush head looks like it will wear out over time, as there is no carpet height adjustment. Replacement brush head, or the entire carpet head could become expensive. Many uprights have automatic carpet height adjustment, and brush head adjustments to compensate for wear over time- it's on the "tippy" side when using the hose and attachments, without disconnecting it from the main body or structure of the vacuum- I've read where the 5-year warranty is a bit suspect, as you have to ship the entire vacuum back to the company at your expense, both ways for repair during the warranty period.Overall, I'm pleased with the vacuum, but will it pass the "test of time" of our previous upright? Probably not, but for the price paid, I could buy two, and possibly three, of the previous upright we owned. My only caveat is that although the majority of the reviews here on Amazon are very positive for the Shark "Lift Away" Professional, no one has used the vacuum long enough to determine its true long-term durability and longevity - since this model is so new. As I stated in the beginning of this review, I'm used to paying more for a vacuum, and having them last for decades - not simply a few years as many consumer-grade vacuums seem to do these days. If Amazon still has this company and model in their database in 10 years, I'll post an update!

I never leave reviews, but I was so amazed by this vacuum that I had to share!! I have a Kirby....which is a great vacuum...has many uses...but is very heavy and awkward. (and don't get me started on how much I paid for it!) I have a few friends who rant and rave over the Shark (they have the one that doesn't "lift away"). So, with positive reviews from friends and all of the positive reviews online, we decided to go with the Shark Pro. (we went with pro because of the extra attachments/tools).Let me just start on the price. It's under $200. If you get it somewhere other than amazon.com (kohls....bed, bath and beyond, etc you can probably get it cheaper because of coupons). I paid a lot for my Kirby...this is 1/4 of the price! It's totally worth the money. (and it has a 5 year warranty). It's very light (compared to my kirby...it's like a feather). It moves around the carpet nicely and without effort. There's no carpet levels to pick....it's either carpet or bare floor. It's easy to operate! The head is small, so it goes in smaller areas. The lift away feature is nice. I wish the hose was longer, but the the canister sits nicely on the steps, so I think I'll be ok!What really sold me on the Shark was this...before my husband got home with it, I vacuumed our living room twice with the kirby. He got home, we set it up in a few minutes and tested it. I vacuumed the whole living room again. It pulled up sand (we live in ohio....so my kids haven't played in the sand box for at least a month now!) and a pile of hair/dust that was unbelievable. I was truly shocked by what my old vacuum missed. It wasn't like we had a cheap vacuum...I am sold on the Shark! I'll recommend it to anyone. I took a picture of the pile of dust and I'm showing it to everyone! I wish I could post it on here. You won't regret this purchase!!
